Is there really a war between Christianity and Islam brewing? Or is it more about economics, poverty, etc?

Is it religion that drives current global conflicts, terrorism, wars, etc?
Or is it more about the incalcuable disparity of wealth in the world, and about how the richer nations tolerate and allow such terrible poverty among poorer nations?

It seems that way. But the Islamic radicalism is allowed to fester by radical clerics and Islamic governments that shift the blame to the USA. The middle east is a festering crap hole, and the devious folks in that crap hole are good bending the minds of the people into thinking America and Israel is the cause of their lives being miserable. Hitler did the same thing with scapegoating Jews for the cause of Germany’s decline, and it worked. Countries without free media can control what their citizens learn, North Korea is the sickest example of this. Now, if there is a way for the masses to learn the truths about the world, radical Islamofascism has nowhere to fester. I have high hopes that the ease of communication that the Internet provides can ultimately defeat radicalism.
I’ll give you one example of this. It is common knowledge in Arabic countries that Israel owns all the banks in America. This means Americans can’t access their wealth without first doing Israel’s bidding. The only trouble is that’s a lie told to Arab citizens as a way to divert their dissatisfaction away from their corrupt governments and towards Israel and America. And somehow, the Arabic citizens are led to believe that every Arab would have a palace and harem if not for the United States taking their oil wealth. It’s a clever way to divert dissatisfaction, and that method will prevail until the freedom of speech, press and communication comes to the entire world. I don’t mind being damned, so long as I’m being damned for who I am. The great satan is the governments keeping their citizens ignorant of the real world across the ocean.
Yes, it’s been brewing for a long time.
Radical Islam decared war on Christians a long time ago. As Christians, we keep trying to “make nice” with the violent terrorists.
ISLAM ISN’T A PEACEFUL RELIGION
Condensed from an article by Cal Thomas, Conservative Chronicle, 10/23/01
One sees many white, Anglo-Saxon, mostly Protestant members of Congress and others on television today vouching for the “peaceful” nature and intent of Islam. Oprah Winfrey has done a show on “modern Muslim women”-none of whom would be allowed to dress in contemporary clothing, be educated, or even appear on television if they lived in radical Muslim states.
I asked Right Reverend Bullen Dolli, an Episcopal Bishop in Sudan, what he believes about the nature and intent of contemporary Islam. “It is a militant religion,” he tells me. He was in Washington at the invitation of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, attempting to warn Congress and anyone else who would listen of the dangers to his country and the United States posed by Islam, especially in its militant form.
In Sudan, says Bishop Dolli, the coercive instruments of the state use brutal force to insure that no other religion but Islam is practiced. The congregation of All Saints Cathedral in Khartoum, a peaceful assembly of Christians, was recently disbanded and many members were arrested, tried in kangaroo courts and either imprisoned or punished by caning.
Bishop Dolli says former Sudanese President Sadiq el-Mahdi has prophesied that by 2010, the world will be dominated by Islam. His prophecy is written in Sudanese school textbooks.
In Sudan, says Bishop Dolli, many Christian church buildings have been either bulldozed or bombed from the air. Non-Muslims suffer persecution in employment, and all women, either Muslim or not, are forced to wear the black chador and veil. The government army has been renamed “Jundy Allah” (the Army of Allah) and they fight jihad (holy war) against those in Southern Sudan and non-Moslems.
Slavery continues to be practiced by the murahaleen, members of government-backed militias who regularly conduct raids against Christians in Southern Sudan. The murahaleen have killed thousands, enslaved children and young women, stolen cattle, plundered and burned food stores and crops and are reported by various human rights organizations to have raped both men and women.
Over two million Sudanese civilians are estimated to have died since 1983 as a result of continuing warfare. Many millions more have been forced to flee their homes. Bishop Dolli says radical Islam’s goal is to dominate the entire African continent with its militant, oppressive, dangerous and increasingly popular brand of religion. So-called “Islamic moderates,” in the bishop’s view, are among the first targeted for extermination by the extremists, even before they go after Jews and Christians.
If Sudan is too far away to worry about, is Potomac, MD close enough? The Washington Post’s Marc Fisher recently visited a Muslim school in that D.C. suburb. What he found ought to send chills up every American spine. An eighth grader told Fisher: “If I had to choose sides, I’d stay with being Muslim. Being an American means nothing to me.”
The school principal said: “Allegiance to national authority is one thing, but the one who gives us life is more entitled to that authority. This is the story of religion through all time. When national laws and values go counter to what the Creator (Allah) believes, we are 100% against it.”
When Christians, Jews and those of most other faiths disagree with the American government, they have worked within the system to change it. It is different with militant Islam, which seeks to dominate the nation in which it grows, and when in control, diminishes the rights of all who disagree.
Don’t think so? Is there a country controlled by Islamic militants that guarantees equal rights for all? Why are we allowing Muslim schools in this country to promote ideas that are seditious? Bishop Dolli knows better. Why don’t the rest of us? Especially after September 11?
WHERE ARE THE SLEEPER CELLS?
Radical Islam Targets Christians and Jews
Condensed from an article by Cal Thomas, townhall.com, 3/7/02
Democrats and Republicans don’t agree on much these days, but the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Democrat Bob Graham, and the Ranking Member, Republican Richard Shelby, concur that there are at least 100 al Qaeda operatives hiding in the United States. Graham says they pose an “immediate threat” to our security. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarek said virtually the same thing in the Washington Times (3/4/02), warning of terrorist sleeper cells in the U.S.
The magnitude of the problem confronting law enforcement officials searching for these killers-in-hiding is revealed by the Dept. of Justice. Spokesman Dan Nelson says that following the Sept. 11 attacks, U.S. authorities arrested 560 terror suspects. Some were released after investigations failed to turn up any evidence that would justify their continuing to be held. Nelson says 327 remain in detention and under investigation.
Of far greater concern is what Nelson says are “314,000 absconders,” people who’ve been ordered deported but law enforcement can’t find them. These are aliens in the U.S. illegally because they’ve violated their visa status. Nelson says deportations will increase as each case is processed. But with 314,000 “absconders,” this is bound to be laborious and time-consuming. Can we afford to wait?
While waiting for the deportations to begin, perhaps something can be done about the training grounds of hate currently on American soil. The Washington Post has carried several stories on Islamic schools in the Washington area which teach Muslim children that “the day of Judgment can’t come until Jesus Christ returns to the Earth, breaks the cross, and converts everyone to Islam, and until Muslims start attacking Jews.” It’s that last part that ought to be of concern.
The Post reports there are “about a dozen” of these schools between Baltimore and Richmond and 200 to 300 nationwide, with at least 30,000 students. Thousands of other students attend Islamic weekend schools, the Post reports. One of the schools profiled by the newspaper is the Islamic Saudi Academy, located in the Virginia suburbs of Washington. An 11th grade textbook at the school says one of the signs of the Day of Judgment will be that Muslims will fight and kill Jews, who will hide behind trees that say, “Oh Muslim, Oh Servant of God, here is a Jew hiding behind me. Come and kill him.” The Saudi government subsidizes the school, whose role in educating students in extremist Wahabi brand of Islam has been widely reported.
It is time to be concerned. Any school-whether Muslim or white supremacist-that teaches hate and encourages violence should not be accredited by the state, and in fact, should be shut down. In the name of tolerance and academic freedom, we have allowed schools to proliferate that teach ideas antithetical to the American way of life and are a threat to the very existence of our country. This is sedition. Those who hate us are using our openness and good will against us.
We will continue to tolerate this at our peril. In fact, the peril is already here as demonstrated six months ago on September 11.
its more a war between Islam and everybody else.
It’s the disparity of wealth, and the disparity of control vs. freedom — and the fact that some people just hate others.
Religion is just an excuse — as it has been for thousands of years — to do what people want to do anyway.
The only time in history when religion was actually the goal were the Crusades (some of them) and the Inquisition — other than that, religion is just used as an excuse to justify behavior.
Also, according to the Koran, Christianity is a sibling religion — since they also worship the God of Abraham, along with Judaism — even bin Laden acknowleges that. The commandment to destroy the infidels does NOT apply to Christianity and Judaism by the plain text of the Koran. So, any attacks against those religions are politically, not religiously, motivated.
On one side you have reasonable people from all faiths, Christians, Jews and Normal Muslims.
On the other side is Radical Islam that wants to destroy everyone that is not radical islam.
It is the job of the normal people in the world to defend themselves and others from the maniacs.
Not unless Christians grow some backbone…most denominations of Christianity today will just compromise themselves into nothingness before saying a cross word to the Muslims.
I don’t think Jesus or Mohammad would have anything to do with today’s current world leadership. This is about resources and wealth. If Iraq had no oil, would we be there?
Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but, if all the countries of the world had equal wealth, Pakistan would still hate India, Muslim extremists would still hate non Muslims, etc. It’s not about poor, it’s about beliefs.
If you haven’t noticed it is a war between Islam and the world.
Our current situation is not a class war in the strictest sense of the word. Mesopotamia was the cradle of western civilization and marched forward as the leader in the areas of science, the humanities, and governance, that is, until the 15th century when middle eastern leaders recognized Europe’s supremacy in the arts of war.
I think racial pride, a rejection of history in Europe’s rise to power, and a religious fervor, by radical islamists, has lead to their attacking the west, in this sense, yes, it is a religious war.
God you are slow, there has been a war for a while. The problem is those folks like me who don’t give a damn about either one still have a vested interest since the Islam folks would kill anyone who doesn’t agree with them…..go figure!
the two are only covers to see that things are done!
