Nobody knows for sure whether or not Donald Trump was serious about running for president in 2012 or whether he was just in it for the ratings he gained for his show “Celebrity Apprentice.” Either way the decision is final for Trump who announced that he will not run. The announcement comes before expected seeing as Trump initially said he would not reveal his decision until this Sunday’s season finale of “Celebrity Apprentice.” Trump maintained the swagger and ego that has made him so popular when he stated firmly, “I maintain that strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and, ultimately, the general election. Trump also toyed around with the idea of running in 1988 and 2000 and ultimately backed out then as well. One has to wonder if the mogul uses these opportunities to boost his ratings, which if that is the case, it has definitely worked for him now as well as in the past.

Trump did manage to cause some waves while he was deciding on a 2012 bid. His doubts about President Obama’s place of birth did finally produce a version of Obama’s birth certificate that many have been waiting to see for quite some time. His actions may be something that Republicans may miss. A Republican strategist, Scott Reed, said “Donald Trump was an anit-establishment figure who demonstrated the importance of taking the debate right to Obama – frontally and hard, which the eventual GOP nominee must do daily to win.” Trump is certainly not afraid to speak his mind, and that may be more important than anyone has realized.
